Racing Report – 2020, Season 2, Week 12

This week our team visited the legendary circuit of Le Mans to participate in the 6hour weekend races for the IELMS in iracing. The preparation for the 24h race in three weeks has already started and these races were a great practice opportunity for our main team and also our academy drivers.

In the Saturday morning race, despite the odds for a very good result things went south really quickly and for three hours straight. A damage-limitation 30th place was the final result. However, in the night race our team registered with 3 cars in 2 categories. 2 GTE and 1 HPD.

In the HPD, Andreas Arvanitantonis accompanied by our academy driver Panagiotis Dimakakos managed a 5th place finish, after starting 11th. This was a great first endurance race for Panos, who kept his coolness throughout the long race.

Both our GTE entries were divided between a main-team and an academy driver. The reason behind this was to provide help and tips through the race to our new drivers. Both our teams started slowly from the back and built up from there, managing to finish 5th and 2nd, after starting 18th and 40th respectively. A very successful first endurance race for Dimitris Vafeiadis and Dimitris Vourlegas, who achieved such a great result with the help of Andy Perrs and Christos Panoulas.

Another HPD and GTE entry for the Sunday evening race. In the first case, the guys started strong at 5th in 3rd split and after running around this place until the 4th hour, an oversteer moment at Porsche curves limited them to a 12th place finish. On the other hand, our GTE entry did a very mature race, fighting for a podium position throughout. Even though a slowdown penalty cost us the 3rd place, our academy drivers Spyros Derekis and Dimitris Vafeiadis performed their best.

To sum up, an excellent training weekend for the team. Our academy drivers honed their skills against the competition and took a little taste of the magnificent track of Le Mans and came back with great results. We keep up the work for the 24h!.
